Village Hall News: are you any good with computers? Would you give just 2 hours a month to help people in our community with very basic computer needs? The village hall is looking for a local volunteer to help set up a regular monthly computer “training and troubleshooting” session aimed primarily at older people who need help with basics like email, internet transactions, Skype, social networking and document management. The village hall has been given a grant to pay for a broadband connection and will shortly be ready to offer free wifi connections throughout the premises. The grant is aimed at helping disadvantaged people in the community such as older people, who with simple help could raise the quality of their lives considerably with basic computer skills. Interested in helping? Ring or email Pat Fitzgerald on 523493 or at patandlouise@talktalk.net for a chat about it without any commitment. Thank you.

The Black Swan: at Burn Bridge has had a refit. I went in for dinner with friends and a mountain of kids recently. The place was fully booked and the pub and the staff all looked very smart! I find the kids fish and chips some of the best – proper big pieces of fish rather than pale fish fingers. That and the ever popular steak pie, roll on summer so we can sit in the beer garden!

Busy Bees Jumble Sale: dig out your best quality jumble for the annual Busy Bees jumble sale! The event takes place on Saturday, March 9 at Pannal Memorial Hall from 1pm to 3pm. Please drop off any jumble between 9-11am on the morning of the sale. Please come along and support your local pre-school you are all very welcome.

St Robert’s Church Race Night: last call for race night at St Robert’s. Saturday, March 2 at the church from 7pm.

News and events: please do get in touch if you have an event or something that you would like me to mention in the column.
