Dacre and Hartwith sports players have commemorated a First World War hero with as the villages’ sports pavilion has been replaced.

The three sports clubs that use the Max Pullan Playing Fields have raised enough money to replace its 75-year-old pavilion, which was pulled down this week.

Building work on the new facility is expected to finish by the end of November before members of the cricket, tennis and bowls clubs spend winter working on the inside of the new pavillion.

But replacing the building has not broken links to its history, and resident Michael Iveson has presented a commemorative board, pictured, to the site. It remembers local man Max Pullan who died in the First World War, and whose father donated land for the playing field in his only son’s memory.
