Kiwi audience for Bed Race

From Derrick McRobert. Secretary of Harrogate Fundraising Branch of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People.

Aspin Lane, Knaresborough.

FURTHER to Geoff Ward's letter in last week's Knaresborough Post, everyone connected with Hearing Dogs for Deaf People hopes that all millionaire collectors keep their hands in their pockets so that Nipper can be used by the charity.

Sorry Ward family, you will have to keep on letting dad 'borrow' your money!

Photographs of the Bed Race have already been circulated around the training and fundraising staff at the Beatrice Wright Training Centre at Bielby and a kennel big enough to shelter him is being searched for.

Ideally it is hoped to begin his essential ''puppy socialising programme'' at the Great Yorkshire Show. However, the kennel manager did not think Nipper was a suitable name for a Hearing Dog, It has been suggested that he be renamed ''Big Geoff'' after his creator and as a pun on ''Mutt'n'Geoff'', cockney rhyming slang for being deaf.

Hearing Dogs are very grateful about being included on the extensive list of charities which have received financial support from the St John's Jewels and the Ward family, and are very excited about having such a wonderful attraction as ''Big Geoff'' to help raise funds at other events. He's a star!

P.S. My cousin has informed us that the Knaresborough Bed Race featured on his television news... in New Zealand!
