Harrogate Christmas Market off to roaring start

Waiting for Video...

Harrogate’s first Christmas market launched on Thursday at the bottom of Montpellier Hill and continues over the weekend.

Over 130 stalls selling a variety of gifts and local produce have been attracting huge crowds.

Traders and visitors alike have been incredibly complimentary about the market.

Brian Dunsby, chief executive of The Harrogate Chamber of Trade & Commerce who organised the market said: “We’ve had great support from both North Yorkshire County Council and Harrogate Borough Council as well as from local residents and traders so it’s good to see the market all set up.”

Coun John Fox said: “Traders seem to be really happy with the organisation of the event and the number of people attending.

“By not having hot dog stands or a beer tent people are using the local cafes. The whole town is really busy not just the market.”

Local resident Lynn Catley said: It is really good. I didn’t know it was on until today and I have been pleasantly surprised.”
