Festive fun at popular stately visitor attraction

A glorious winter scene at Harewood House.

A glorious winter scene at Harewood House.

Enjoy a traditional Christmas at Harewood this year - open weekends from November 24 to December 16.

The busy programme includes seasonal crafts, activities, music and shopping – with a liberal sprinkling of Yuletide magic.

Each weekend from November 24 to December 16, children can snuggle up for a fireside story with Father Christmas in the Servants’ Hall – and receive an early Christmas gift made in the elves’ workshop (£12.50 pre-booked half-hour session, includes entry to the grounds). They can also pay a visit to the penguin pool, where feeding time is at 2pm.

Meanwhile, parents can take a peak into the grandest rooms on the State Floor (open 12-3pm) to see how Christmas past was celebrated, or head below stairs for seasonal treats and cookery demonstrations in the Old Kitchen.

Harewood House, which won Gold in the Enjoy England Awards, will also be providing shopping opportunities – both in the festive Gourmet Shop and in the Courtyard, where the newly-refurbished shop promises “designer homeware and gifts seldom available outside of London” and the Courtyard Restaurant will be serving seasonal specialities.

On December 6, the atmospheric Carols by Candlelight service will feature St Aidan’s Choir and Brass Band bringing their musical magic to Harewood’s medieval All Saints’ Church.

And on December 11 and 18 Harewood’s award-winning house florist Gillian Gill will run workshops on Wreath Making and Table Centre Floristry (pre-book only, visit www.harewood.org/winter for details).
