Coneythorpe News

The Coneythorpe and Clareton Village Association AGM: was held in the Tiger Inn with retiring chairman Jon West opening the meeting. He thanked all those who had helped and supported events during the past year. Special thanks went to the committee members for all their hard work during a very busy year, to the Tiger Inn for their support and for organising the Christmas raffle and their support for the Village Tree to name but a few, to Dave Dobie and Caroline Taylor for organising the tree and for John Milburn and Peter Harrison for their help with storage. Throughout 2012 there were many events - starting with an Easter egg hunt and egg decorating competition this was followed soon after by the Diamond Jubilee Big Lunch - despite the dreadful weather it was a great day. The children received a commemorative coin to mark the event and there was a raffle which raised enough money to buy new Christmas tree lights. The Village Olympiad was a marvellous day - with all ages getting involved with team competitions and a visit by Caroline Houseman - Olympic torch bearer- really adding to the spirit of the day. Jon West added a new event to the calendar and implemented a Sunflower Competition - it will continue next year with a new challenge and the handing on of the prized Challenge Cup. The Safari Supper proved successful again this time in September and ended with a party under the new marquee in Jon and Liz’s garden. The final event of the year as always is the much looked forward to Christmas walk, Christmas meal at the Tiger and carols round the Christmas tree accompanied by the sounds of the Knaresborough Silver Band. Following Jon’s thanks and summing up of the year Kate Wilson, treasurer, submitted a detailed financial report. Jon then welcomed Jamie Bird as the new Chairman and handed the meeting over to him. Jamie thanked Jon on a hugely successful year and thanked him for all his hard work. The new committee for 2013 is as follows; chairman - Jamie Bird, vice chair TBA, past chair - Jon West, treasurer - Kate Wilson assisted by Carole Topham, press officer Jane Chesworth, secretary Barbara Crayford and committee members Jane and William Watson, Kate Lavelle, Peter Topham, Simon Parkin, Liz West and Caroline Taylor. The meeting was closed at 8.50pm.
