Bergerac star's strong local connections
From Dr Arnold Kellett. Aspin Oval, Knaresborough.
THOSE who have read of the recent death of Terence Alexander, better known as ‘Charlie Hungerford’ in the Bergerac TV series may not realise what strong connections he had with Knaresborough.
He grew up in the town when his parents were Master and Matron of Knaresborough Hospital (formerly the Workhouse) in the 1930s and early 1040s.
The attractive mock Tudor buildings were unfortunately demolished in 1996, but this meant that Terence was able to visit his former happy home when he appeared in the Harry Secombe ‘Highway’ programme we made in Knaresborough in 1991.
