The Arkendale Wine Society: held its annual Gala Dinner in the Community Hall, with a magnificent celebration meal designed and prepared by Jane Watson, accompanied by a range of fine wines selected by Peter Thorndyke, Alan Stokes, Jon West, John Alderton and Trevor Rowe. The society welcomes new members and is looking forward to its next meeting in January. Details on the village website.

St Bartholomew’s Church: was the venue for the Autumn Serenade seasonal concert by Side by Side. A wide range of music and songs from shows, light opera and more, delighted the audience.

The Community Hall AGM: gave an opportunity to reflect on the success it has had over the last three years since its opening. Over 13,000 people have used the hall for a wide variety of events, and much of its success is due to the hard work of the trustees who manage the building and its bookings. With its modern facilities and excellent location, it continues to be a great asset to the villages and the wider community.

Coffee Mornings: these are held on the first Wednesday of each month in Arkendale Community Hall, 10.30am-12pm. The next session will be Wednesday, January 5.

Church Services: Carol Service (followed by mulled wine and mince pies) Monday, December 17, 7pm. Crib Service Monday December 24, 5pm. Christmas Day Eucharist, 8.30am. United Benefice Service Sunday December 30, 10am.

News and events: please get in contact if you have an event or some news to mention in this column. More details of events in and around the village, including advance notice of Christmas activities, can be found at www.arkendale.org.uk.
